RECRUITMENT | THE FOUR RS
PROGRESS UPDATE
The new Office of Admissions lead has recruitment connections that we are capitalizing on for spring 2022 and fall 2022 recruitment. Last month, I met with commissioners, superintendents, principals, counselors, and high school seniors in Long Island and Amityville, New York. In two days, we received 90 senior applications.
I also made the most of the east coast trip and met with the provost, dean and faculty from the New York Institute for Technology to discuss an articulation agreement that will provide a seamless transition for our Cyber Security students to their Masters program. That agreement will be finalized this month.
We have become more intentional in the recruitment of Hollis F. Price (HFP) and Staxx Academy (SA) students. HFP brought their seniors to our Homecoming Spotlight Day and several have made verbal commitments to LOC. I will be submitting a proposal for tuition discounts for HFP and SA students. We will also award one full scholarship to a senior from each school annually beginning Fall, 2022.
The first Shelby County Public Schools LOC Spotlight Day is scheduled for November 16.
The first LOC Spotlight Day held at Southwest Community College is scheduled for February 24
RETENTION | THE FOUR R'S

-
A summer bridge program is being developed and will be offered Summer 2022
-
The advising process has been strengthened
-
The Fall 2021 freshman cohort is being tracked semester to semester
LONG-TERM GOALS
A new Health and Wellness facility that will house a new gymnasium, a Nursing program, the Physical Education program, a fitness center, classrooms, a band hall, a pool, and an indoor walking track is sorely needed if we are to grow the campus’ enrollment and academic and athletic programs. The current athletic facility was built in 1954. It is outdated and ill-equipped for recruitment and providing adequate facilities for students and student athletes.
Strategies:
-
Capitalize on the athletic star power we have with a former NBA player and an All-American Olympian on our coaching staff
-
Consider naming rights for large donors
-
Consider Jerry C. Johnson naming rights that would draw many donors
